What CBSE says
In its Class X FAQ, CBSE explains that the CGPA is the average of grade points in all subjects excluding the additional sixth subject, and that “an indicative equivalence of Grade Point and percentage of marks is computed as follows: Subject wise indicative percentage of marks = 9.5 × GP of the subject; Overall indicative percentage of marks = 9.5 × CGPA.”

How do I convert CBSE CGPA to percentage?
Multiply the CGPA by 9.5. CBSE's Class X FAQ states: overall indicative percentage of marks = 9.5 × CGPA. A CGPA of 9.4 gives 89.3%.
How do I find the percentage for one subject?
Multiply that subject's grade point by 9.5. CBSE's FAQ gives subject-wise indicative percentage of marks = 9.5 × grade point of the subject, so a grade point of 9 is 85.5%.
How does CBSE calculate the CGPA?
According to CBSE's FAQ, the CGPA is the average of the grade points obtained in all subjects excluding the additional sixth subject. (For candidates who offered a compulsory NSQF subject, CBSE says the CGPA is out of six subjects.)
Is 9.5 × CGPA an exact percentage?
No. CBSE calls it an indicative equivalence. A grade point covers a band of marks, so the converted figure is an equivalent, not your actual marks.
Can a CBSE CGPA of 10 be converted to 100%?
Not with CBSE's rule: 9.5 × 10 = 95%, which is the highest indicative percentage the formula can give.
Does the 9.5 rule apply to my college SGPA or CGPA?
Not automatically. It is CBSE's rule for its Class X grade results. A college or university uses its own conversion, which is usually stated in its regulations or on the grade card.
