How SGPA is worked out
The UGC’s guidelines on the Choice Based Credit System define the SGPA as the sum of credits × grade points for all courses taken in the semester, divided by the total credits. The example preloaded above is the one the UGC uses:

Grade points: use your own scale
The default table is the UGC’s recommended 10-point scale, shown as an example: O 10, A+ 9, A 8, B+ 7, B 6, C 5, P 4, F 0. Your university may use different letters, different points, or different marks bands for each letter, so open “View or edit the grade points” and match your grade card. Presets are included for VTU’s 2022 scheme, Anna University R2021 and JNTUH R22, taken from their regulations.

Frequently asked questions
How is SGPA calculated?
Multiply each course's credits by the grade point you earned in it, add those products, and divide by the total credits for the semester. This is the formula in the UGC's CBCS guidelines: SGPA = Σ(Ci × Gi) ÷ ΣCi.
Why isn't my SGPA the average of my grade points?
Because courses carry different credits. A 4-credit course counts twice as much as a 2-credit one. A plain average only matches the SGPA when every course has the same credits.
What grade points should I use?
The ones on your grade card. The calculator starts with the UGC's recommended 10-point scale (O = 10 down to P = 4, F = 0) as an example, and you can switch to VTU 2022, Anna University R2021 or JNTUH R22, edit any value, or type grade points directly.
Do failed courses count in SGPA?
It depends on your regulations. The UGC formula includes every course taken, so an F (0 points) pulls the SGPA down. Some universities leave failed courses out; Anna University R2021, for instance, excludes U grades. Use the checkbox to match your rules.
How many decimals should SGPA have?
The UGC guidelines, and regulations such as VTU's, round SGPA and CGPA to two decimal places. The calculator shows the unrounded value in the working and the two-decimal figure as the result.
