Your institution’s formula decides. There is no single national SGPA/CGPA-to-percentage formula in India. If your grade card, transcript or university regulations state a conversion, use that one (pick it above or enter it as a custom formula). When an employer or admissions form asks for a percentage, quote the formula you used and where it comes from, so they can check it.
How the reverse conversion works
Every formula on this site is a straight line (for a given grade, in SPPU’s case), so it can be run backwards exactly:

The CGPA is rounded to two decimals, and the calculator converts that rounded value forward again so you can see how close it lands.
When you’d use it
- Eligibility cut-offs. A job or course asks for “60% or equivalent CGPA”. Reverse your university’s formula to see which CGPA that is for you.
- Targets. You want a 70% degree; reverse the formula to get the CGPA to aim for, then plan semesters with the SGPA to CGPA calculator.

Frequently asked questions
How do I convert percentage to CGPA?
Reverse the formula your university uses to go from CGPA to percentage. If the rule is percentage = CGPA × 10, divide by 10. If it is (CGPA − 0.5) × 10, divide by 10 and add 0.5. If it is 9.5 × CGPA, divide by 9.5.
What CGPA is 75 percent?
7.50 under CGPA × 10, 8.00 under (CGPA − 0.5) × 10, 8.25 under (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 and 7.89 under 9.5 × CGPA (rounded to two decimals).
Can I convert my marks percentage into the CGPA my university would have given?
Not exactly. Universities calculate CGPA from the letter grade in each course, weighted by credits, not from an overall percentage. Reversing a conversion formula tells you which CGPA corresponds to a percentage under that formula, which is what eligibility cut-offs usually need.
Why do I get a CGPA above 10 or below 0?
Some formulas can't produce every percentage. Under (CGPA − 0.75) × 10, the highest possible percentage is 92.5%, so asking for 95% needs a CGPA above 10. The calculator flags these cases.
How does the reverse work for SPPU?
SPPU's circular uses a separate equation for each final grade, so you must choose the grade too. The result is only consistent if it falls in that grade's CGPA range on your grade card.
